Scope of the Works:

Ashleigh Contracts were awarded the contract to carry out approx. 3,000m3 of rock dredging to provide for berthing depths on the Outer Berth of -7.5m CD.

Two distinct areas of rock breaking were required in order to achieve a safe berthing pocket for the proposed commencement of large commercial vessels due to dock in Greenore during the summer of 2015. All dredged rock was retrieved, brought ashore and transported by dumptruck to a stockpile area within the harbour.

Works commenced in February 2015 using a Hitachi EX650 Long Reach (25m reach) working from the quayside to break out and retrieve rock within approx. 12m of the quay line.

In March 2015 Ashleigh mobilised a spudleg barge and 95T long reach excavator (21m reach) to undertake all remaining rockbreaking to approx. 40m off the quay line. The underwater rock breaking in some areas was up 4m in depth with the side profiles to the new berhting pocket requiring to be trimmed and graded to ensure a safe margin for  the berthing of the proposed new vessels scheduled for arrival at the expanding Port commercial business.

The rock dredging works were successfully completed ahead of the arrival of the MV Smart Tina in June 2015. This 180m long, 39,800dwt vessel carrying imported steel from China was the largest vessel ever to call into Greenore Port.
