Scour Protection Works at Stena VT4 (Earthmovers Article)

Stena Line Ferries significantly upgraded their facilities on their Belfast to Loch Ryan route in 2012 and part of the requirement was to facilitate their new larger vessels, Stena Superfast VII and VIII.

To accommodate these new vessels at VT4 in Belfast Harbour, significant dredging and scour protection measures had to be implemented along the length of the berth at VT4. This extended to the formation of a new vessel turning area at the seaward end of the berth.

Ashleigh Contracts had a key role to play in the scour prtection measures by installing in excess of 30,000T of rock amrour to the edge of the new concrete scour mattresses being laid along the berth and around the perimeter of hte new turning area.

Details of Ashleigh Contracts' input into the scheme can be viewed in the attached feature article on the works from Earthworks December 2012 publication.
