1974/1976 Worked for James Trousdale & Sons (in father's plant hire business) covering the North Down and Ards areas.

1976/1977 Worked for G&H Crompton Ltd. on housing sites. Work included foundations, drainage and landscaping.

1977/1985 Worked for Charles Brand Ltd. On civil engineering works on the following sites; Sydenham Pumping Station - excavation of cofferdams and the placing of large diameter pipelines Phase 1 West Link - pipelines, sub-base and ducts. Portavogie Harbour Extension - bulk excavations. North Breakwater at Bangor Marina - placing fill and rock armour. Carrickfergus Marina - excavations, placing fill and rock armour and attendance on piling operations.

1985/1987 Worked for James McAlorum Ltd. on drainage, foundations and landscaping on various housing sites.

1987/1999 Mostly excavator plant hire to main contractors and private individuals, carrying out civil engineering works for the following Companies; Charles Brand Ltd. at Pickie Breakwater Bangor Marina - placing concrete armour units and rock fill. F.K.Piling at Boucher Road - removal of piling spoil. Charles Brand Ltd at Warrenpoint Seafront Development - all earthworks drainage and rock armouring. Charles Brand Ltd at Harland and Wolff Fitting Out Quay - all earthworks and attendance on sheet piling operations. Charles Brand Ltd at Ro-Ro Ferry Terminals at Sandy & Westray in the Orkney Islands - all earthworks including rock armouring. North Down Building Co. on private nursing home - ground works, drainage and foundations. M.M.M.Design on large housing scheme - ground works, foundations and drainage. Charles Brand Ltd. at Castle Hill Sewer Reconstruction - attendance on sheet piling operations, excavations and placing culvert.

Stephen was also directly involved in each of the above contracts as one of the prime plant operators in all cases – responsible for driving all grades of excavator from 2.5T to 200T, articulated dumptucks to 35T and Crawler Cranes to 40T. Stephen has also been using a range of excavator-mounted attachments in the above contracts including vibrating piling hammers, compactors, beam extensions, impact piling hammers, rockhammers, concrete pulverisers and hydraulic rotators for Block placement (Including for Accropode placement of up to 20T weight).

Ashleigh own and operate one of the widest fleets of specialist Long Reach machines throughout the UK & Ireland in the range of 40T to 200T with reach capability up to 28m. Each of these machines has been fitted with electronic machine-control capability and Stephen has been the instigator of these systems and in particular with the introduction and ongoing development of the extensive use and reliance on 3D GPS system (Prolec PCX-3D) installed on the main lead machines.
